I am an artist who became an author. Starting out in the oil fields of New Mexico as a roustabout, I ended up graduating from a military academy and studied art and philosophy in college. For many years I was active in the art scenes in Texas & NYC & DC, winning occasional awards for metal & wood sculpture, pen & ink drawings, collages and gouache paintings. I worked as an art director in experimental film and with some modern dance companies, and directed a play at the Brooklyn Museum. Employed at numerous places in NYC, Washington, Texas and North Carolina, I gained considerable experience in corporate operations. In 1971 I began working under the wings of Ann H. Tanners at 42nd & Fifth Avenue, and she taught me all she knew about resumes, having established the first professional resume service in America in the 1940s. Subsequently, I wrote/designed and published The Resume Writer's Handbook, which was sold in two editions internationally by HarperCollinsPublishers for 23 years. In Fall 2006 they released my latest book, Bioblogs: Resumes for the 21st Century, which introduces a new art form for the weary formats of traditional resumes. I am currently at work on a follow-up, Global Bioblogs in Color, and a related book, Creative Character At Work. I also run a remodeling and home restoration business, The Hometooled Co., based on the Gulf Coast in Mississippi.
My children, who grow and change hourly, are the driving soul of my engine. My wife steers.
